Lunigiana honey was the first Italian honey to obtain a PDO (protected designation for point of origin) accreditation from the European Union. The production area includes the fourteen municipalities of Lunigiana, whose mountain landscape are characterized by a diversified vegetation mainly consisting of acacia and chestnut tree forests. These features, combined with a tradition dating back to the end of the fifteenth century, produce an ideal location for the practice of beekeeping.
