Archaeology

The Park territory has been interested and enriched by several settlements that have left their traces already in ancient times: Ligurians, Ligurians-Apuani, Etruscans, and Romans. Above all in the latest century, the discovery of some finds led to start archaeological excavations of great interest that have brought to light finds, statues, but also whole necropoleis.

Monte Pisone
The settlement, found near S. Romano in Garfagnana, dates back to the 4th century BC and belongs to the Ligurian-Apuani people. At the moment, the finds are not visible on the spot, but they have been gathered in a permanent display in Castelnovo Garfagnana.
Recreational and educational activities can be carried out in Selva del Buffardello Adventure Park.

S. Bartolomeo
The discovery includes a Roman necropolis found near the town of S. Bartolomeo, along the river Secchia, in the Municipality of Villa Minozzo.

Campo Pianelli
The archaeological site, in the Municipality of Castelnuovo nei Monti, offers a stratigraphic sequence including an ancient necropolis with tombs going from the 11th to 5th century BC and a proto-Villanovan style settlement dating back to the Iron Age. Several finds have been moved to the Civic Museums in Reggio Emilia.
