Art.6 - Competition regulation
According to the principles set out in Art.1, the event is primarily a mushroom-picking competition, but combined with activities promoting respect for the environment (garbage collection) and strengthening the connection between man and nature: it is thus envisaged as a cultural incentive reinforced by competition.

The competition is structured in the following categories:

Mushroom hunting and picking individual World Championship
Participants will try - in compliance with the Regulation and applicable norms, as well as with instructions provided during the information evening on 7th October 2017 - to find and pick: the heaviest basketful of porcino mushrooms; the biggest mushroom; the most handsome mushroom.
Each participant will have to be equipped with a stiff, wicker (or other vegetal fibres) hand-basket; pack baskets or rucksacks are not allowed.
Upon registration, participants will receive a bag (to be placed inside the basket) where up to 3 kilos of mushrooms may be stored; participants can take a small rucksack with them, to carry clothes or hiking material only. Judges will however be entitled to check the contents.
If a participant picks 3 kilos of mushrooms, and especially if he/she manages to do so before the competition is over, he/she will have to go back immediately to the point of departure, to have the bag precisely weighed; if the judges deem the weigh valid, the time of delivery will be marked on a tag to be placed on the bag itself, and the participant will have finished the competition; if, on the contrary, the weigh is judged insufficient, the participant will have the possibility to return in the wood and complete his/her search. It is therefore advisable to be equipped with a small or spring scale, in order to weigh the mushrooms directly in the wood.
When the competition's four hours expire, participants will have to go back to the point of departure to have their bags sealed; participants arriving after the time limit will be disqualified.
If all participants finish the competition at the end of the time limit, they will be ranked according to their bags' weight and, in case of a draw, according to the number of mushrooms picked; if, instead, one or more participants deliver 3 kilos of mushrooms before the time limit, they will be ranked according to the time of arrival.
On the basis of the final ranking, the following prizes will be awarded:
  • To the first place winner in the "heaviest basket" category/men
Gold medal and a 100€ voucher
  • To the second place winner in the "heaviest basket" category/men

World Combined Competition of the Apennine
This discipline, already tested during the last edition, merges two challenges for a single final judgement:
  • Environmental challenge: upon registration, each participant choosing to compete in this discipline will receive a plastic bag, where he/she will store all the garbage he/she finds during the competition; participants may fill the plastic bag completely, but may not use other bags; the type of garbage collected must be compatible with the bag's capacity.
  • Mushroom challenge: this discipline forms however an integral part of the individual, traditional competition.

Participants to the Combined Competition take part in the Individual Competition as well (not in the Team Competition), and the mushrooms they pick are included in the rankings for the biggest and the most handsome mushroom. Participants will try to pick the heaviest amount of porcino mushrooms, in compliance with both the 3-kilo ceiling and applicable local norms. Participants who, beside the garbage, fail to pick at least one mushroom, may not be ranked. The challenge is over at the end of the time limit: early deliveries are not allowed.
When the competition's four hours expire, participants must go back to the point of departure to have their bags sealed.
Judges will calculate the rankings according to the weight of the mushrooms and of the garbage in equal measure (within the limit posed by the bag's capacity).
Participants wishing to take part in the Combined Competition must state it upon delivery of materials during the information evening.

Prizes:
  • To the first place winner in the "combined competition" category/men
Gold medal and a 100€ voucher
  • To the second place winner in the "combined competition" category/men
