History, Traditions, and Folklore
If Appennino Tosco-Emiliano can boast the naturalistic and environmental features and qualities of the Park territory, we cannot forget that it also owes a lot to its culture. Generated from the history of these lands and protected by the memory of the places and people living there, this culture has been preserved until present times.
The ancient professions of the woodsmen, coalmen, "picciarìn", shepherd, "cavallari", and farmers, with their everyday life and work, have shaped the characteristic landscape of the Apennines. The traditions and folklore, in their simple and ritual repetition, have cemented the relationship between people and between people and territory, while the dialects and the place names reveal past details if you thoroughly analyze them.
This has been enriched by the artistic features scattered throughout the territory, like the several churches, country churches, aediculae, small towns, castles, and towers, whose resisting stone offers us fragments of the past history. Another precious feature is given by the long-lasting strength of the words by those poets who were born, lived, or simply passed through these territories and praised their virtues, like Dante did.
