Back to Pratizzano Pass, take the narrow asphalt road (trail marker 667) that along the pastures offers towards the south great panoramas over Upper Val Secchia and the summits of the Apennines. At the first junction, keep the narrow road on the right; at the second junction at the foot of Mt. Casarola, where the road climbs on the right to the nearby Scalucchia Pass 1,350m and a carriage road continues, take in the middle of the two the trail 667 leading to Mt. Casarola. As a matter of fact, after crossing trail 669, it directly climbs to the ridge dividing the basins of Secchia and Enza (ancient boundaries between the duchies of Modana and Parma) and, out of the beech wood, you will face the final uphill stretch to Mt. Casarola 1,979m (2.50). A well-marked panoramic ridge (667) leads to the nearby pass, meets trail 675, and then climbs to the summit of Alpe di Succiso 2,016m (0.40-3.30), the highest summit of the most fascinating mountain group of Appennino Tosco-emiliano, both for the breathtaking views it offers from the Alps to Corsica and for its intact slopes.

Overnight stay in Sarzana Mountain Hut at Mt. Acuto Lake, 1,581m, 25 beds. Open in July and August and during the weekends, winter premises always open, Tel. +39 339 2245117, www.rifugiosarzana.it
